Nigerian Idol: Naomi Mac & Olamide Etti Make It To Top 10

…As the search for Nigerian Idol finalists continues

Naomi and Olamide have emerged the first contestants to make it to the top ten phase.

Both contestants who auditioned in Lagos were announced at Nigerian Idol’s first live show on Thursday December 23, 2010.

Olamide Baruwa Etti is a 400 level student at Babcock University who is gradually becoming a favourite amongst the ladies. Etti, 21,  says to anyone who cares to listen that he has been singing for as long as he can remember. He lost his father during the Nigerian Idol auditions, and is so eager to become the first Nigerian Idol.

Naomi Tare Mac Ebiama on the other hand is a stylist and dancer. The 18 year old singer has an angelic voice, and is seen by many as one of the contestants who will go far in the competition. Her performance of Shana Twain’s From This Moment on Sunday December 20, 2010 got the crowd charmed and cheering

‘They both did well, but I also think Chito, Ruth, Immaculate and the other contestants did really well too, and they deserved to make it to the next round, but the viewers have picked their favourite amongst the bunch, and that’s what I keep saying to Nigerians – please vote for the people that did well and not just because a contestant is your friend or family member, and this they have done’ Judge Yinka Davies says

And as the show finally begins to wrap up preliminaries, the contestants understand that this is the time to give it all it takes, and if they fail to step up, elimination is inevitable. While it looks like it might take a while for the contestants to get used to the big stage, Yinka Davies’ comments about their performance last week shows that she understands what they are going through.

“That is not an easy song to do, you dramatised it well, and I must say well done” she says to BB who performed ‘I’m telling you’ by Jennifer Hudson

‘Maybe in the spirit of Christmas, I’d excuse you, but I know you can do much better’ was her response to Lynne who rendered ‘Nothing’s gonna change my love’ by George Benson

While viewers are still getting used to the Idols format, and how the finalists emerge weekly, contestants troupe into the Dream Studio every week hoping to be the best they can be on stage.

‘Good performances most times result in the audience’s love, and when they love you, they’d vote to keep you in the house, that’s how it works’ Adaora Mbelu Communications Manager at Optima Media Group says

Last Sunday, December 26, 2010, Lawrence from Port Harcourt, Lynne from Lagos, Felicia from Enugu, Amadi from Lagos, OJ from Lagos, Onyeka from Lagos, Safiyat from Abuja, BB from Kano, Sunday from Lagos and Glory from Abuja performed  in front of an audience and the judges.

Three notable contestants who the audience couldn’t stop cheering are Amadi Lawrence who performed Hero by Enrique, BB who performed I’m telling you by Jennifer Hudson and Glory Oriakhi who performed my way by Franka Sinatra

The third batch of ten have arrived the dream studio gearing up to perform this Sunday January 2, 2011.

Sponsored by Etisalat in association with Royal Exchange and Pepsi, Nigerian Idol airs on 20 broadcast stations in Nigeria, UK and USA. Transmission details are available on www.nigerianidol.com
