Chaos! Police Arrest 27 People Ahead Of Notting Hill Carnival 2012
27 people have been arrested ahead of the Notting Hill Carnival taking place this weekend.
Police have raided houses, and arrested suspected gang members and drug dealers for possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs and handling stolen goods.
The Metropolitan Police say they wanted to ensure criminals did not spoil the carnival, and warned that they will be creating a “hostile environment” for gang members.
Commander Bob Broadhurst, in charge of the policing operation for this years carnival, said: “We want people to enjoy the event without worrying about the crime and violence that has been caused by the small minority in the past.”
“Across London we’ll use specialist officers and technology to make it as hard as possible for those people identified through intelligence to travel about.”
The police intend to use methods such as stop and search as well as screening wands to detect any concealed weapons brought onto the premises.
