Former American Idol Contestant Tackles ‘Love On Top’ Acapella

Former American Idol contestant Syesha Mercado gave a unique acapella rendition of Beyonce‘s ‘Love On Top‘ over the weekend. Taped while rehearsing for a show in Chicago, the third place Idol finalist and her back-up singers gave an amazing performance, it has to be said.

Syesha was a personal favourite during season 7 of Idol and this latest outing demonstrates why. ‘Love On Top‘, with its multiple key changes, would see many-a-singer struggle to keep up, but Syesha definitely rose to the challenge. While perhaps not displaying the same control as Beyonce, for a rehearsal is was most impressive.

Although clearly talented, Syesha has never made her mark on the music scene since her departure from Idol 3 years ago, and the likelihood of that ever happening looks slim. However, it’s great to see she’s still on the grind and having fun while doing what she loves.

The track sounds great acapella, so here’s hoping Beyonce will give us a similar stripped back version in the foreseeable future. Especially in light of the many raised suspicions as to whether she lipsynched when performing the track at the VMA‘s back in august.
