AUTHOR: SheiFunmiFRESH OUT UK: Purple Ferdinand
Purple Ferdinand is a 23-year-old singer/ songwriter from east London, an up-and-comer heavily inspired by the likes of Whitney Houston, Johnny Cash and the Spice Girls. Combining sweet vocals with her ukulele, matched with poetic and heartfelt words, this nostalgic soulstress explores an elegant folk avenue on the acoustic version of her promo single, ‘Beautiful Anomaly‘.
Currently unsigned, she has gained support and interest from major platforms such as MTV UK and Soul Culture , as well as artists like Lianne La Havas and Ministry Of Sound/Level Entertainment‘s new soul boy, Daley.
Purple Ferdinand was also chosen as one of RWD Magazine’s top 12 artists to watch out for in 2012 – other artists in the list included Emeli Sande, Jessie Ware and Azealia Banks.
Not only is she leaving a mark on those that hear her voice, but she is also a well- known tattooist and has inked-up the platinum-selling Ed Sheeran and SB.TV‘s Jamal Edwards, to name but a few.
Usually when a guitar wielding act sets out to strum & croon, it requires almost no effort to determine talent, what with the knowledge that all there is to impress a listener with is vocal ability & a simple stringed instrument.
“Purple” puts the colour into the soul; yes the bodily soul & genre soul. She sings with effortless soul on the single ‘Beautiful Anomaly’ to get listeners listening without forced intent. Backed only by minimal string beats, it is her voice that reins one in to the warmth of her giving, and serves as a pointer to the talent to be heard. As she belts about her beautiful anomaly creation, the lyrical depth sets her in the certain league. She seems almost sad yet her words are foods for thought.
Beautiful Anomaly is simply beautiful. The only anomaly here is not listening to it.
‘ Beautiful Anomaly ‘ is just a little taster of what you can expect from this up-and-coming soul diva – who also has a passion for 90′s fashion.
