Its funny how much people crave controversies. Readily taking sides without (exhaustively) examining both sides of available facts. I’ve engaged in enough arguments to know that as a fact. So please don’t get me started.
Literally, homosexuality is same-sex attraction, meaning boy getting attracted to boy sexually & ditto for girls, so basically, it’s the opposite of heterosexuality.
Getting to the root of it, the book of Leviticus in the holy bible mentions the condemnation for same-sex relations, so does some national laws. I’m not sure about the holy Quran, but I’ve heard of muslims been tortured & gruesomely murdered for “the act of taking it up the ass”.
Throughout history, both famous/ordinary men/women live(d) with this sexual orientation leading to different tags & perceptions as different eras emerged. Fag, Faggot, Fairy, Queer, Gay Pink, Swish, Homo & LGBT whether offensive or not are the tags associated with homosexuality. As such, just like any novel phenomenon, the emergence & thus introduction of Homosexuality into the mainstream of present day culture suffered some setbacks/hostility. However, with the dawn of the new era that recognises & enforces human rights came a boundless liberty for all humans irrespective of their state of mind or being.
Still, despite the leeway inherent to every individual of the human race; homosexuals inclusive, there is still a lot of superstitions & hostility associated with it. Africans for example, we believe homosexuality is evil; inexplicably so, therefore we apply the African rule–the Ignorant rule: if we can’t explain it, then its evil. So was killing of twins in a part of Nigeria until someone disproved our dumb rule of thumb…Ok agreed that analogy is far-fetched. But how can criticizing, ostracizing, maiming & killing of these homosexuals because of fear of the unknown be deemed rational. That’s not counting the number of teenagers who’s taken their own lives ratio those on suicide watch on the account of self-hate. We also as Africans are the same people that thrive on Martin Luther King’s famous words: All men should be judged by the content of their character, yet we judge/codemn people for their sexuality. We get called Negros & we throw a hissy fit about racism. So much for “content of character”.
Personally I can understand anyone being uncomfortable or not agreeing with homosexuality as you have the right not to like things; Yes its different and they standout in certain ways. But if our sentimental judgements were the order of the day, then I challenge the world to exclude HIV patients/Disabled persons from world’s population and save us trillions of monies in terms of research/effort, after all, to the majority of the ignoramus, they are nuisances too. Also be mindful of your disgust when next tour admire or purchase the creativity of Gay geniuses such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Marc Jacobs, Elton John…Please try and hate them enough not to appreciate their talents.
Christians advocate God’s condemnation towards it, but to think or talk in God’s point of view would damn us all mortals, i.e all men/women that sin, such as the pro choice woman who commits ‘legalized’ abortion. FYI we don’t earn the rights to judge one another (at least not outside the walls of a courtroom), so let’s leave that assignation to God. In retrospect, a friend of mine couldn’t hide his disgust/homophobia when he said I must be one the evil breeds for me to support such a evil cause...
While the African part of you agrees/remain ambivalent about it, the educated part knows better than to argue but just keep an open-mind.
