SheiFunmi Interviews DJ Abrantee

DJ Abrantee (Abrantee Boateng) is a popular voice on the UK radio “Choice FM”. The On-Air/Media personality has worked with famous faces like Iyaz, Tinie Tempah, Craig David, etc. Abrantee is also know for being the host of MTV “DJ Takeover” back in 2008. How did the journey start for you as a radio presenter?

I started on a community radio station called Gfm then managed to get on Choice FM covering for other DJ’s. I was eventually given a spot on the 3am to 6am shift called the Early Morning Riser which i did for approximately 2and a half years.

Since 2005 when you started as a freelance Dj before becoming a full on air personality till date, you have garned a lot of audience and worked with high profiled people, how does it feel to be in the position where you are today?

I thank God and it feels great I guess hard work does eventually pay off but i take nothing for granted. I am working as hard if not harder than when i first started. I enjoy what i do and to be on [the] air 7 days a week doing what i love best gives a great sence of achievement.

What does it take to be a good radio personality?

Woh I don’t know I guess you will have to ask the people who listen to radio to decide I just try and be myself that’s all I can be

We listen to radio shows these days and find some of them pretty boring what are the elements to make your show lively?

Well to make my show lively I can only be myself hopefully you like what your listening to.

Tell us about your upcoming project, the Ginuwine/J.Holiday concert?

There are a number of projects that i am involved with and hosting with the Ginuwine/J holiday being one of them on the 21st June. I’m also hosting the Hiplife Festival on Saturday August 20th at Indigo2 which will see Ghana’s biggest artist performing under one roof with an after party till late. On the bank holiday Sunday I am hosting the Afrobeats festival at Hammer smith appollo. My latest project is the new Afrobeats club night at Merah starting in July. We also start shooting season 2 of my tv show aptly named “The Dj Abrantee Show” on Sky at the end of June. What line of profession would you have been if not media?

Hmmm good question, but I don’t know probably still working in sales.

What advice do you have for people out there that want to be in your line of profession and achieve success like you?

Pray daily and don’t give up on your dream no matter how hard it gets. You only fail when you give up so dont stop until something happens
