R&B diva Whitney Houston and her on-screen daughter, Jordin Sparks, sat down with Entertainment Tonight last night to discuss their forthcoming movie ‘Sparkle‘ – a remake of the 1976 musical.
The film marks Houston’s return to the ‘big screen’ – given that it’s her first starring role in over a decade. Sparks, however, will make her movie debut after taking on a role that was originally to be played by the late Aaliyah, before her tragic and untimely death in 2001.
Thus, both singers have a lot to prove to critics and fans alike, and with Houston also acting as the films executive producer, she’ll be needing the film to be a success more than anyone.

With both singers failing to strike lucky in their music careers in recent years, it’s no surprise they’ve opted to head into acting. However, as a big fan of Sparks here’s hoping the film can be for her – what ‘Dreamgirls‘ was for Jennifer Hudson – a huge career breakthrough.
‘Sparkle‘, which also stars singer Cee-Lo Green and appoints R.Kelly to soundtrack duties, is set to hit screens in the earlier half of 2012.

Your facts are wrong. Whitney's i look to you cd released in 2009 went platinum in the us and #1 on billboard and around the world. It's sold 2.5mil copies worlwide. jordin sparks last cd sold 150k us and nothing worldwide.
Stop reading trent's blog for whitney info, he's a hater.
I bet this will be great especially since Cee-Lo Green will be there. Man, I love Cee-Lo. I can't wait for this movie.
lol that whitney needs this film to be a hit more than anyone else. She is the star of this film despite Jordin Sparks having the larger role that's why you will see her out and about doing promo. Nobody's checking for this film for Jordin or the other actors, they are buzzing because of whitney and aint' none of he rmovies failed yet.
I'd say Jordin needs this more than anyone as plans for her last cd was scrapped after I am woman did nothing on the charts. Whitney still has her contract and her cd like hte person above said was a #1 hit around the world selling over 2mil copies.
